RWANDA DESTINATIONS

RWANDA DESTINATIONS.

Have you ever thought of visiting Rwanda? A gorilla safari in Rwanda is worth to live a memorable experience.

Rwanda is located in east Africa neighbouring Uganda, Tanzania, DRC and Burundi. It is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley and also one of the smallest countries in Africa with its capital city being Kigali. This country is ranked as the cleanest country in the world in a recent research.

Rwanda gorilla safari is the best way of adventuring that you can take in your life to explore and trek the remaining mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Gorilla safaris in Rwanda are possible, but can only be done in Volcanoes National Park located in north-western Rwanda in the rain forested vegetation, neighboured by five of eight volcanoes that make up the Virunga massif. These are Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo.

Volcanoes national park has 10 habituated mountain gorilla families and among others include; Karisimbi group, Ugenda group, Titus, Agashya, Susa A, Susa B, Kwitonda group and Sabinyo group. All these are ready and well habituated to be visited daily and each group requires a maximum of 8 visitors per day and for gorilla habituation, a maximum of 4 people is required.

Each family is headed by a male gorilla, silverback which enjoys all the privileges like feeding first, mating all the females in the group and also decides where the group spends the night.

Gorilla trekking/habituation in Rwanda suits all groups of people in terms of income and a safari can range from budget to luxury. Therefore, do not worry about your budget because we are here to help you.

A complete gorilla safari in Rwanda can take about 2 to 4 days depending on your budget and schedule. Trekking can be done for leisure like the honeymooners, adventure or even research and this will enable students to expand their knowledge like the zoologists or even primatologists.

Also, you need to know that gorilla trekking is permitted to people above the age of 15 years and it takes not more than 8 hours including an hour in the presence of these gentle giants as you watch them feed, groom, walk and breastfeed their young ones.

What do you require to trek mountain gorillas on a Rwanda safari?

You are required to have a valid gorilla permit indicating the total amount paid, gorilla region to be visited and date of tracking. Intending visitors can acquire gorilla permits either through a professional tour operator, travel agent or through Uganda Wildlife authority directly. A gorilla permitted should be acquired at least 3 months in advance as they are highly demanded.

You are also supposed to be in good health conditions because these apes get the same diseases as humans, like flu/cold, common cough, Ebola, among others. You also need the yellow fever vaccination card before trekking these remaining endangered species.

Before entering the jungle, you are required to have a long-sleeved shirt and trousers/pants which are environmental friendly in colours of green, khaki or black.

What is the best time to go for a gorilla safari in Rwanda?

Trekking these endangered species is considered to be a year-round activity; though you are reminded to trek gorillas in Rwanda during the short dry season that begins from mid-December to early February or over the long dry season months of June to September. This makes it possible to penetrate the forest and the paths are a bit dry.

How safe is Rwanda to carry out a gorilla trekking safari?

Despite its dark history, Rwanda is a safe and friendly destination – a testament to the resilience of its people. For guests seeking a deeply enriching gorilla safari, Rwanda offers an experience that is difficult to find anywhere else and this is why the gorilla permits tend to be priced higher (1500$) than other countries like Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

We are here to arrange and plan your Rwanda gorilla safari to exceed your expectations and we do this through providing unmatched visitor experience, excellent choice of accommodation properties and professional tour guides/drivers. Browse through our endless options of gorilla trekking safaris in Rwanda and make your booking.
