Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival – overnight in Moshi town at the hotel.
Arrival at the Kilimanjaro international airport and a pickup by the tour guide offering a quick brief about the safari and the country at large. After transfer to a hotel in Moshi for your accommodation as you prepare for the hike the next day.
Day 2: Moshi - Machame Gate (Machame Camp).
Wake up early and prepare after a quick breakfast. We shall pack fresh food and fruits because it's our norm to use fresh stuff only. Our experienced mountain chef and the senior local guide will be ready to start the hike.
Traverse through the tarmac road after the pick up from the hotel to Machame gate which can take about 50 minutes’ drive. On arrival, head for registration and document verification, which normally takes at least 45min depending on the number of people.
Then start the trek which takes about 6 hours passing through the trail that is muddy and slippery. After lunch, proceed on via the giant heather forested hills and then arrive in at Machame Camp (2850m). On arrival, a warm welcome from our crew which will have arrived earlier to prepare for you dinner.
Day 3: Machame Hut to Shira Camp.
Wake up at around 0700hours and then be served with hot water to soak your legs and then tea. Continue with the hike as you pass through the rocky ridges which are covered by heather. And it will take you to Shira camp where you will spend your night after an exciting adventure during day.
Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp.
As this seems to be a long tiresome day, breakfast will be served earlier and then advised to pack enough water to keep you strong by our chef and start a hike from Shira camp. You will hike the Lava tower where you will enjoy your picnic lunch and then head to Barranco camp where you will spend a night.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp.
Enjoy breakfast in the mountain and straight away start the hike to Karanga campsite. The trail passes through the steep ridge of the Barranco wall that seems unbearable.
At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here you will camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. On this point, you can view Mawenzi and Kibo peaks more clearly.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp.
Hike to Barafu camp (the ice camp) which can take about 5 hours after breakfast. After lunch, you can get a chance to explore Kilimanjaro’s two highest peaks - Kibo and Mawezi and after exploring, descend back to Barafu camp for your meals.
Day 7: Barafu Camp hike to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Lower Mweka Camp.
Trek slowly to the highest peak - Uhuru to make your hike complete. The climb starts when you are well prepared with enough food and heavy clothes because the peak has snow and very cold. The hike takes approximately 8 hours and this makes it tough and steep, which requires waking up early at around 0400hours. You may witness the sunrise in case you arrive early.
Upon reaching the top, spend some good moments as you take photos and record some videos and later descend back to the bottom at Mweka camp where we will spend the night.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Arusha.
Start with breakfast and embark on a descent trek back to Mweka gate and proceed to Arusha which will be followed by a drop off at the hotel of your choice or at the airport which will mark the end of your 8 days Kilimanjaro hiking safari.
