Overview.
Golden monkey trekking is an amazing activity on your safari to Uganda and Africa at large. These monkeys are different from others with reddish punches all over the body, while their nostrils face upwards.
The safari seems to be tiresome as it involves travelling long distances by road though amazing and rewarding with the best memories at the Uganda Equator, Igongo cultural centre, Batwa experience and the most interesting golden monkey trekking. Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
A pick up from Entebbe airport or hotel in the morning and transfer to Mgahinga national park a short briefing. The journey is through Masaka district and several stopovers are granted and the major one at the Uganda equator for photography and viewing, another one at Igongo cultural centre for the visit of the Ankole Kigezi museum and lunch.
Then proceed through the Kigezi highlands and find your way to Mgahinga national park, the smallest national park in the country but full of interesting wildlife such as the golden monkeys and mountain gorillas. It is also good for birding with over 180 bird species.
On the arrival after a long journey of about 7 hours’ drive, you will check in the safari lodge for your accommodation.
Day 2: Golden monkey trekking and Batwa encounter.
Start the day with breakfast and then head to the park offices for briefing. This exercise can take about 30minutes as you are given instructions to make your trek successful, also checking and making clarity on the golden monkey permits. Then the exercise begins with the help of the armed park ranger which can take about 3 hours. An hour will be located to you in their presence to enjoy them as they move from one bamboo to another.
After the trek, be rewarded with a certificate of recognition and then head back to the lodge. Take a community walk to Batwa culture that neighbours the forest with their unique culture.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala.
This will be along travel day back to Kampala and it will start early to catch up with your flight an Entebbe or a drop off at the hotel depending on your next program or safari. End of the tour.
