Overview.
This safari takes you to four countries in East Africa that will know for having diverse wildlife in East Africa. Also, visit the local communities where you will enjoy different cultures such as the Batwa, Batooro, Rwandese, Masai people among others.
This safari covers primate trekking (gorillas, chimpanzees and golden monkeys), hiking, game drives, boat cruises, sightseeing and community tours among others. Enjoy the best of this East African safari.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and transfer to the hotel.
Upon arrival at the airport, our company representative will meet you and take you through a briefing about your whole tour, proceed and drive to your hotel for dinner and overnight in Nairobi town. If you are fun of moving at night, take a nightlife adventure with a local guide.
Day 2: Transfer to Lake Nakuru and a boat ride.
Lake Nakuru National park is close to Nakuru town and it is famous for its thousands of Flamingos that dwell on the water surface. The park is also known for big numbers of black and white rhinos as well as giraffes. Have your breakfast early enough to catch-up with the afternoon boat ride after lunch. Overnight at the park with dinner
Day 3: Drive to Masai Mara national reserve and afternoon game viewing.
Start the days with breakfast at a hotel and then be briefed about the tour by the driver guide and after, drive to Masai Mara National Reserve which is a large game reserve that is continuous with Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The region is mainly occupied by the Masai people and the park is famous for its annual great migration of wildebeests, Zebras, Thomson’s gazelle which happens from July to October every year.
After your arrival, have lunch and proceed for a game drive to meet the Masai lions, African leopards, cheetahs, elephants, Zebras, buffaloes and so many more other animals. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Full day Mara exploration (game drives and visiting the Masai People).
Wake up to a hearty breakfast and get ready to drive through the park trails in search of the wild gem. This park is home to a number of lions, elephants, Thomson’s gazelle, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, a big number of Rodents, leopards and a lot more.
Return to the lodge for lunch and later take a community visit around the Maasai people, check out their way of life and this is through the traditional dances and music, food, worship among others. Have the rest of your evening with dinner and an overnight stay at the park.
Day 5: Morning game drive and cross to Serengeti national park – Tanzania.
After breakfast, embark on a morning game drive in the park tracks and afterwards proceed to Serengeti National park, crossing over to northern Tanzania. Have the night at the park with dinner and accommodation.
Day 6: Game Viewing in Serengeti National Park.
Serengeti National Park in Tanzania proudly covers open Savannah grasslands and the home to Tanzania’s biggest wildebeest migrants, buffaloes, zebras, lions, elephants, giraffes and a lot more.
You can choose to do a morning hot air balloon as part of your game drive, proceed to the lodge for a lunch meal and enjoy more afternoon drives as you cover almost all sectors of the park. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Ngorongoro followed with an afternoon game drive to the Crater.
Ngorongoro stands out proudly among all the UNESCO world heritage sites. The reserve has been unchanged for many decades and this keeps it in its original nature. Join your driver-guide today and transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area. Upon arrival, have lunch and get ready for a game drive to the crater regions. Have rest of the night with dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 8: Morning game drive, transfer to Arusha airport for your flight to Uganda.
On this morning, have an early breakfast, take a simple game drive and drive off to Arusha airport for a flight to Uganda. Your guide will be waiting for you at the airport and on arrival, you will transfer to the booked accommodation in Kampala.
Day 9: Transfer to Kibale Forest, evening visit of Isunga cultural Community.
Set off from Kampala at around 7:00 am to catch up with a great adventure at Isunga cultural community in Kibale national park. The journey will reward you with several attractions and these are tea plantations, forests with primates like baboons among others.
On arrival at Isunga cultural community, you will experience the true Batooro and Bakiga cultures and this will be through entertainment by traditional dances and music, art and craft. You have the option of taking a community walk, in case time allows. Then check in at the accommodation facility.
Day 10: Chimp tracking, afternoon transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park for an evening game drive.
Embark on a marvellous activity of chimpanzee trekking where you will have a briefing first before entering into the forest. This briefing helps to make the activity more fun and enjoyable and this means that it includes dos and don’ts while trekking.
On the trek, you will meet other primates like Vervet monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and other interesting attractions like flora, bird species while in the forest for over 2 hours. An hour is allocated while in the presence of these apes which means that you are able to take enough memorable photos.
After, drive back to the lodge for your lunch and then transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park using the Ndali - Kasenda route where you will be able to view several crater lakes. On arrival, take an evening game drive to spot wildlife in this park-like buffalos, elephants, warthogs, olive baboons, jackals among others followed by checking in the lodge.
Day 11: Morning game drive and afternoon boat ride.
Take a morning a game drive in the savannah plains and afternoon boat cruise at Kazinga channel where you will be able to spot different animals such as lions, leopards, giraffes, buffalos, elephants among others. Also hippos and crocodiles in the waters of the Kazinga channel.
Day 12: Transfer to Bwindi via Ishasha sector.
Take a drive through the Ishasha sector and be able to spot the tree-climbing lions as you take your mid breakfast and then proceed as you drive to Bwindi national park. One of the parks in Africa that shelters some of the remaining mountain gorillas. It is also good for birding as it boasts over 400 bird species including 23 rift valley endemics and 14 cannot be spotted anywhere. On the arrival, you will transfer to the lodge for your dinner and accommodation.
Day 13: Gorilla tracking and Batwa experience.
As all park activity starts with a briefing, also here it will be and then head to the forest to search for these apes. Trekking will take over 2 hours and an hour while in their presence but remember, there is a lot to spot such as forest buffalos, elephants, olive baboons among others. Trek back after a great adventure and be awarded with a certificate of recognition then drive back to the lodge for lunch.
Then visit the Batwa community and experience their culture through cultural dances and music, folk tales among others and then return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 14: Transfer to northern Rwanda - Volcanoes national park.
Transfer to Rwanda using Katuna border and head to Volcanoes National Park which is another home of mountain gorillas. The park is also home to golden monkeys, having different bird species hence vital for birding experiences. It has 5 of eight Virunga mountains. On arrival, check-in at the lodge for dinner.
Day 15: Golden monkey tracking and evening cultural entertainment.
Head to the park headquarters after a cup of tea and engage in briefing then enter the forest to meet these unique monkeys that play in the bamboo trees. They are unique in the way that their nostril faces upwards and have reddish punches all over the body.
Trekking will take about 2-3 hours and then after being rewarded with a certificate of trekking these golden monkeys and after head back to lodge for lunch. In the evening, have cultural entertainment from the Ibyiwachu cultural village and experience the true Rwandese culture. Then relax for the next morning activity.
Day 16: Dian Fossey hike and transfer to Lake Kivu. Relax the rest of the evening.
Hike to Karisoke research station and experience as you learn about the history of Dian Fossey who saved very many gorillas from poachers, introduced habituation in Rwanda, DR. Congo and Uganda and later established a research centre. The hike is rewarding with primates and lush flora. Then drive to Lake Kivu where you will relax at the resort as you swim and sun bath.
Day 17: Boat rides in the morning and relax at the beach.
Take a boat ride after leisurely breakfast and you may take part in fishing as a leisure activity. Visit the islands in Lake Kivu and head back to the resort for “Nyama choma” on the beach and enjoy speed boats.
Day 18: Transfer to Kigali and visit the Genocide Memorial Site. Departure.
Transfer to Kigali with an option of visiting Rwanda Genocide Memorial Site and learn more about the history of politics of Rwanda and then lunch will follow. Be dropped at the airport in Kigali to catch up with your flight.
