Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe International airport and transfer to Mgahinga NP.
Start the safari immediately after the pick up from the airport or hotel in Kampala, coupled with beautiful views of the landscape while travelling to Mgahinga national park. Among the stopovers you make are at the equator in Kayabwe Mpigi, Mbarara at Igongo cultural community and other scenic places.
The journey covers a distance of about 500km taking 7-8 hours’ drive. Mgahinga is the smallest national park in Uganda blessed with ambient climate that favours the endangered mountain gorillas. The park is also good for bird watching and nature walks/hiking plus Batwa community visit. Arrive and check-in at the accommodation site.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience.
Head to the park headquarters for briefing, receive the guidelines regarding dos and don’ts to help you while trekking these primates. Penetrate the forest and start searching for these great gentle giants and while on the trek, meet other forest residents like forest buffaloes, elephants, red-tailed colobus monkeys and different bird species.
After the trekking exercise which takes about 2 – 8 hours including an hour in the presence of these apes, you will head back to the lodge and have leisure time.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and Batwa experience.
Another moment on trekking comes back in another style immediately after breakfast. Drive back to the park office like the previous day for briefing and this time it’s about Golden monkeys. The activity is interesting as you view these primates from bamboo trees with their impressive reddish – golden patches on their flanks; after an hour while in their presence as you take photos using flashlights which attracts these golden monkeys, trek out of the forest and head to the lodge after an award of a certificate of completion from the park warden.
Undertake an experience with the Batwa communities immediately after lunch and discover about this unique culture of the Pygmy people. Learn and discover their culture through traditional stories, dances and drumming. You may also purchase some souvenirs or crafts for a friend or relative back home. Drive back to the lodge for your last night on this safari
Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala.
Pack all your belongings in the vehicle and be ready to check out and begin a transfer back to Kampala. On your arrival, be dropped at either airport or hotel depending on your next program, marking the end of this tour.
