3 DAYS GORILLAS & GOLDEN MONKEYS IN RWANDA.

Overview.

The safari takes you to trek the remaining endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat and also trek the golden monkeys, a rare species of monkeys. There is an option of a city tour where you shall visit the local craft markets, Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre, the presidential palace museum among others.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Depart Kigali to Volcanoes National Park.

Depart to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri after the pick up from the airport or hotel in Kigali. The park has gorillas that are found in Virunga volcanoes. The park covers an area of 160sq.km having five of the eight Virunga Mountains (Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo).

This park is where gorilla habituation started with the help of Dian Fossey who saved many gorillas from poachers and his graveyard can be visited on the foothills of Mount. Karisimbi and Mount. Bisoke. The journey takes only 1-2 hours and on arrival, you will relax at the booked lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park.

Enjoy morning breakfast and then head to the park headquarters for a short briefing which takes about 30 minutes. You receive the guidelines that will help you to make the trekking more enjoyable; the park ranger guide will help you to penetrate the forest as he shows you the right directions using the demarcated trails. On setting your eyes on the gorillas, you will have an hour watching and taking pictures but remember that the whole activity takes about 2-4 hours depending on where you find these apes.

Gorilla trekking is amazing, you get to know more about the gorilla habits and also on the trek enjoy different primates like black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and other mammals like Forest elephants, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, spotted hyenas, bushbucks, duikers, bush pigs, bushbucks and more. Trek back to the safari lodge for your hot lunch.

Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking and Afternoon transfer to Kigali.

Embark on an amazing activity of golden monkey trekking immediately after breakfast. Start with a briefing by the park ranger at the park headquarters and then head in the forest to look for these rare monkeys. They are normally spotted bamboo trees as they jump from one to the other.

These monkeys are amazing as you spot the nose faces upwards than other monkeys and also having reddish punches all over the body. Trekking golden monkeys take about 2-3 hours and only an hour will be allowed to enjoy these gorillas.

After the trek, head to Kigali city which will be followed by the drop off at either airport or hotel hence the end of the 3 days gorilla trekking and golden monkeys in Rwanda.
