Overview.

Visit Rwanda’s largest lake, Kivu which is located along the Rwanda - D.R. Congo. This lake is a life blood of many prominent rivers in Africa including Rusizi and River Nile, because it is where they get their waters from. It is also a major leisure and vacation center in Rwanda, where travelers throng for relaxation and rewinding after an adventurous journey in Volcanoes, Nyungwe or Akagera national parks.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Kigali to Rubavu with a visit to Gisenyi Market and boat trip to Napoleon islands.

Early morning your safari guide will take you to Rubavu in the western region of Rwanda. You will be amazed by how good Rwandan roads are well tarmacked and perfect for high end tourism. From Kigali to Rubavu, it is a distance of about 156-160 Km, taking approximately 3 hours of drive.

Arrive in Gisenyi, and take a tour to visit Nyamyumba hot spring and tour the Gisenyi Market to have a general idea of the town. Depending on arrangement made, you can acquire material for water sports at the lake near Kivu Serena Hotel. Boat rides inside the lake to Amahoro or Napoleon Islands are organized.

In the evening you will have opportunity to see traditional fisher men doing their things at night. They use wooden fishing boats with long nets which they cast to capture a day’s meal. Sunset beach leisure and dinner at Lake Kivu is memorable.

End of day one.

Day 2: Visit the tea and coffee plantations and return to Kigali.

Tea and coffee are synonymous brands with Rubavu and the entire Kivu region. The best coffee selections, some bought by Starbucks come from the Kivu region of Rwanda. Therefore, it would be great to learn more about where the cup of coffee or tea you take every morning comes from!

This tour will reveal the real life of Rwandan farmers and participate in various activities that happen at the farm. Witness the much acclaimed Rwandan hilly landscape; a natural beauty of tea farms and rolling hills. After this experience, you will have lunch and return to Kigali for your next flight or stay at your hotel.
