5 DAYS NYUNGWE AND VOLCANOES N/PARK PRIMATE SAFARI.
Overview.
This safari takes you to the big primates of Rwanda which are rare such as gorillas, chimpanzees and golden monkeys. Activities like primate trekking and canopy walk are rewarding and bring back memories through discovering man’s close relatives.
The safari will start and end in Kigali city.
Detailed itinerary.
Day1: Arrival and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Be picked at the airport in Rwanda and transfer to Nyungwe national park, one of the most famous conservation areas in Rwanda where you can trek chimpanzees.
Nyungwe forest is on record for inhabiting up to 13 primates, over 400 bird species and the only national park with a canopy walkway in the whole of East Africa. Arrive and check in the accommodation for diner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.
Drive to the park offices for briefing which can’t be missed on this activity. Then head to the forest with a help of the park guide and look for these cousins which we share 98% of our DNA with.
Take an hour in their presence as you capture memorable photos/videos then spot other primates like red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and vervet monkeys. Then trek back to the park offices for certificate of completion and drive to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, entangle the adventurous canopy walk way where you will spot different primates swinging between trees and birds singing sweetly. This is a great experience where you will enjoy sightseeing and enjoy lots of fun.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Transfer to Volcanoes National Park after breakfast which is home to endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys which are rare primate species in the world.
The park is also home to over 170 bird species which makes it a good hub for birders. Upon arrival, if time allows, take a nature walk and visit the local community and learn about the Rwandese culture.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.
Indulge in this exciting moment of visiting and trekking endangered mountain gorillas after breakfast and briefing. A pre-trek briefing exercise is essential as it guides you on the rules and regulations to follow while trekking these endangered species.
Enjoy an hour in their presence and witness how they move, groom their young ones and feed. Thereafter hike for 2-3 hours, disembark and transfer back to the hotel for a long leisure time.
Day 5: Golden monkey trekking and transfer back to Kigali City.
The experience will commence immediately after breakfast and then head to the park headquarters to receive important instructions to help you trek smoothly.
Some of the instructions include maintaining silence in the forest, not littering the park and not feeding the golden monkeys, among others. The park ranger will emphasise not using flashlights on this point and this is because golden monkeys enjoy and come near when taking photos with a flashlight.
After 1 hour of this adventure, you will exit the forest and embark on a return transfer to Kigali airport where you will be dropped for your return flight. This will mark the end of your 5 Days Nyungwe and Volcanoes NP Primate safari.
