4 DAYS NYUNGWE FOREST SAFARI.
Overview.
Welcome to this 4 days Nyungwe National Park Safari! It offers you a chance to interact with the local people through one-on-one cultural encounters and explore the beauty of this conservation area. Enjoy chimp trekking and the canopy walk, both activities are typical highlights of any safari in Rwanda.
The tour also takes you through Kigali city where you will visit museums, the 1994 Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site, local markets, Kigali convention Centre, and Kigali Art museum, among others. Therefore, this safari is encouraging because it covers both wildlife and culture.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival and depart to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
A warm welcome from your assigned driver guide at the airport upon your arrival; which will be followed by a quick brief about this 4 days safari in Nyungwe and the country at large. Then transfer to Nyungwe national park, well known for more than 13 species of primates including the famed chimpanzees.
While on this journey, you have an option of visiting ethnographic museum in Nyanza and King’s Palace in Butare as you enjoy beautiful tea plantations along the journey. Head to the lodge for your accommodation.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in the afternoon.
Start the day with breakfast at around 07:00hours and then head for briefing at the headquarters of this park. Here you will be guided on how to trek these endangered species.
You will be assigned to one of the park ranger guides who will take you through the forest to search for our beloved cousins. While on the search, you will come across other primates, bird species and floral species. An hour will be allocated to you after finding their location to be able to take memorable photos and videos but the whole experience can take about 2-6 hours. Later on, trek back and head to the lodge for refreshments which will be followed by lunch.
Enjoy a canopy walk after lunch which is the only East African canopy that is suspended on a height of 525ft above the ground. This offers an aerial view of the entire Nyungwe forest and also witness primates as they jump from one tree to another. Then return to the lodge for your evening meal.
Day 3: Nature walk / Hike and cultural visit.
Take relaxed breakfast and then head for a nature walk through the tea plantations heading to Lake Kivu. Meet the cultural villages of either Katabi cultural village or Banda community village who will give you entertainment of cultural and traditional dances/music, art and craft, traditional meals among others. Then return to the lodge for your lunch and leisure.
Day 4: Kigali city tour and departure.
This 4 days safari ends on this day! Leave Nyungwe forest and drive to Kigali, drop off in town for a short tour if time allows. You will have a chance to visit numerous historical and cultural sites that make Kigali a unique city; you will visit the national museum, genocide memorial site, the art and craft market among others.
End of tour.
