4 DAYS MOUNT. BISOKE AND KARISIMBI HIKING SAFARI.

Overview.

The 4 days Bisoke and Karisimbi mountain hike showcases the natural beauty and wildlife of volcanoes national park in Rwanda. Other than towering volcanoes, this park also protects mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, variety of birds and 3 volcanic mountains including; mountain Karisimbi, mountain Bisoke and mountain Muhabura. This safari will satisfy your adventure and nature desires.

Day to Day.

Day 1: Kigali – Mount. Karisimbi. Start the hike.

Depart from Kigali, head northwards to Ruhengeri region. Immediately upon arrival, go to the headquarters for briefing and prepare your backpacks, camping gears, drinking water and many other equipment. Porters are always available to help you carry bags though these are hired at an extra cost.

The hike takes 6 to 8 hours to reach the first camping site near the summit and at this point you will enjoy the views of Virunga volcanoes. Dinner and overnight stay at the camping site.

Day 2: Descend from Mount. Karisimbi.

After having breakfast at the summit, enjoy the sunrise as you descend back to the mountain base. Head back to your lodge for lunch and in the evening, you can take a city tour in Kinigi or a drive to the twin lakes for canoeing and sight-seeing.

Day 3: Hike Mount. Bisoke.

Take breakfast and report at the ranger post for registration and then drive to the base contours of Mt. Bisoke. Bisoke is one of the Virunga volcanoes, which includes Mounts Karisimbi, Gahinga, Sabyinyo, and Muhabura. It is rather a sheer climb, preeminent to cope during the short or long dry season. On top, the biggest crater lake of the Virunga chain can be seen unless there is too much fog.

The track leads through bamboo forest, the habitat of mountain gorillas, giant lobelia or hagenia and alpine meadows. Picnic lunch at the summit, while viewing the beautiful Bisoke Crater Lake. Fantastic views of other volcanoes! You will then later descend and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Return to Kigali. Departure.

Head back to Kigali with a stopover at the various beautiful sites, with intertwined hills that mark the entire journey.

Visit the Kigali genocide memorial after lunch. The visit will give you an insight into what happened during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. In the evening, the driver will drop you at the hotel in Kigali or the airport to catch your departure flight.
