4 DAYS GORILLA TREKKING AND DIAN FOSSEY HIKE IN RWANDA.
Overview.
Enjoy gorilla trekking adventure in this 4 days safari and hike to Dian Fossey graveyard where you will learn more about the American lady who saved very many mountain gorillas and at the same time started an institute in Karisoke.
The safari takes you to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda to discover more about its beauty since it is one of the conservation areas where the remaining mountain gorillas can be found in their natural environment. Also, have a chance to explore Rwandese culture by visiting Iby’Iwachu cultural village. This safari, therefore, covers both wildlife and culture.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
A pick up from the hotel after breakfast or on your arrival at the airport by the driver guide and quickly make a transfer to Volcanoes National Park. This is one of the places in the world which shelters endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.
It has over 300 bird species and bird lovers can have nice for birding to bird lovers. Arrive and be welcomed at the lodge with a glass of juice, briefing and check in at your place of accommodation.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and community tour.
Breakfast will be followed by a drive to the park headquarters where you will be briefed about the rules and regulations to guide you while trekking these beautiful apes.
Then with a help of a park ranger guide, penetrate the forest while looking in all corners to be able to spot these apes. Trekking time depends on where you find these apes and an hour will be granted while in their presence and the entire experience can take between 2-8 hours.
After this memorable experience with your camera full of photos and videos, you will trek out of the forest and then be awarded a certificate of completion followed by a drive back to the lodge.
Immediately after lunch, head out to visit the local community at Iby’Iwachu cultural village where you will get entertained about the Rwandan culture as you learn different activities like preparation of local dishes, language, cultural music and dances among others. Then head back to the lodge.
Day 3: Hike Dian Fossey.
Start with a briefing after breakfast and then head back to the forest for another 4 hours adventure where you will learn more about the legacy left by a fallen heroine, Dian Fossey. This lady saved very many gorillas in Rwanda from poachers and later on she was murdered in her home after starting a research institute that is found in Karisoke in 1985.
The hike is rewarding not only the lessons learnt from Dian Fossey but also the attractions that are found in the trails like primates, plant species, bird species among others. Return to the lodge and relax and you prepare for the next day departure.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali city.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you watch the sunrise and then check out of the place of your accommodation followed by a transfer back to Kigali.
Depending on your flight time, you can have a short city tour where you will visit the Rwanda genocide memorial centre and the local craft markets where you will purchase some souvenirs. Then, a drop off at the hotel or airport to mark the end of this tour.
